Merlyn Lampshire, age 82, of Lincoln, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at Journey House at the Tabitha Nursing in Lincoln.
A Graveside Service will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Aurora Cemetery. Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
Merlyn Wesley Lampshire, the son of Lyman and Goldie (Benson) Lampshire, was born in Hordville, Nebraska, on November 18, 1938, and passed away in Lincoln, Nebraska, on August 4, 2012, at the age of 82.
He grew up in Hordville and graduated from Hordville High School. Merlyn enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Saudi Arabia.
Merlyn enjoyed a beautiful marriage to Janice Carlson for 53 years. They were married on August 2, 1959 in Polk. They had three children.
Merlyn had a long career in the automobile industry during which he sold cars for 45 years. Merlyn began working for Wortman Motors in Aurora in 1959. In 1962, they moved to Holdrege where he worked for Strong Brothers until 1978. While in Holdrege, he was involved in the local Jaycee's, Optimist Club, the American Legion and a member of the First Baptist Church. In 1979, they moved to Minden where he purchased and was the owner/operator of the Chevrolet/Pontiac dealership. For many of those years, he worked closely with his son, Mike. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Minden. Merlyn enjoyed dancing with his wife as part of the Square Dance Club. They moved to Lincoln in 1999 to be closer to their children. Merlyn continued his career as a salesman for DuTeau Chevrolet. Jan passed away on December 2, 2012.
Merlyn enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He was a master woodworker and taught his children how to use many of the woodworking tools. Merlyn spent many hours restoring his 1964 Corvair. Merlyn was a man with many talents and chose to take on projects doing most of the work himself. He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons. They shared a common bond of Dr. Pepper and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jan, and siblings.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Debra Lampshire of Omaha and Stacey Lampshire Haney and husband Chad Haney of Lincoln; son, Mike Lampshire and wife Becky Lampshire of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; 5 grandchildren, Camden Haney, Braden Haney, Aaron Lampshire, Evan (Abby) Lampshire and their daughter, Nora and Quinn Lampshire; sister-in-law, Corinne Adelson of Polk, and many other relatives and friends.
