On Monday, August 2, 2021, Joseph Harold Ryals, of Prattville, Alabama, loving husband, father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord.

Celebration of life services will be held Thursday, August 5, 2021, at 12:00 p.m., at Cain's Chapel United Methodist Church, 96 Lightwood Road, Deatsville, Alabama.

Pallbearers: Mark Lovette; David Northington; Ross Ryals; Bryant Northington; Heith McCracken; Michael McNeil.

Harold (as he is known to his friends) was born August 21, 1934, in Repton, Alabama.

Harold graduated from Repton High School in 1952. After high school, Harold soon joined the Army, married Francis Aulene Christian, and by 1955 was stationed in Japan as a cryptographer.

Harold and Aulene had a son, Joseph Lenn Ryals, and a daughter, Francis Kaye Ryals.

Following his service with the Army, Harold worked for the Nielson Company as superintendent and then Farm Bureau Insurance Company. Through the GI Bill, Harold attended Jefferson Davis Junior College, then Auburn University and graduated with a degree in Vocational Agribusiness Education.

Harold had many callings: He taught at Lyeffion High School; worked for Lyeffion Evergreen Live Stock Company and became a licensed auctioneer. Later he became Director of Career Education for Conecuh County Schools. After that program ended, he obtained a Master's Degree from Auburn University of Montgomery in Education. He went back to Lyeffion High School as vice principal and vocational agricultural teacher.

For years, along with all of his jobs, he had a cattle farm, which he sold in 1981, to move to Montgomery, Alabama. Harold became a real estate agent working in property management with Don Sawyer, Laura Edwards, and Alfa. And in 1985 he married Judy Lovette Ritter Ryals.

Harold was also known as the leather man working festivals all over the State of Alabama.

Joseph Harold Ryals was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Mattie Sue Ryals; his brothers Lavone (Pauline) Ryals, Carl Ryals, and Jack Ryals; his sisters: Mildred (Robert Earl) Brooks, Mavis Ryals, Bonnie Sue Ryals; his former wife, Aulene Ryals; his step-daughter, Alice Ritter Harris.

Harold is survived by: his wife of 36 years, Judy Ryals; his children: Lenn (Anne) Ryals and Kaye (Mike) McNeil; his sister, Sarah (Ray) Brantley; sister-in-law, Carol Ryals; brothers-and-sisters-in-law: Jim Lovette, Carol Shewbart, Debbie Lovette, and Mark Lovette; his grandchildren: Morgan Ryals; Meredith Ryals; Anna Christian Ramer and Michael (Tabitha) McNeil, and his three great-grandchildren; his step-daughters: Sandy (David) Northington and Jamie McCracken; step-granchildren: William (Sarah) Northington, Troy Santana, Tatum Northington, Bryant (Nicole) Northington, and Heith McCracken; and three great-step-grandchildren.

Harold had many brothers-and-sisters-in-law, many nieces and nephews, and was a kind, generous, gentle and loving husband, father, brother, and friend to all.
