Mr. Joe W. Thompson, age 86, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday (August 3, 2021) in Lebanon, Virginia. Born February 16, 1935 in Honaker, Virginia, he was a son of the late Kyle Emory and Eura Vaughn Fuller Thompson. A lifelong resident of the area, he worked many years as a construction foreman, working on many surface mines and roadways in Southwest Virginia. In his free time, he enjoyed raising fox hounds and fox hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Evonne Ellen Thompson and Susan Kay McClain, and one brother Roby Keith Thompson.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Shirley Jean Thompson; two sons, Clinton Thompson and wife, Johnnie Belinda of Rosedale, Virginia, and Jack Emory Thompson and wife, Amma Lou of Honaker, Virginia; one daughter, Julie Cochran and husband, Jeff of Greenville, South Carolina; three grandchildren, Cassie Reynolds, Zachary Cochran, and Adam Thompson and wife, Anna; one great-grandchild, Katie Reynolds; one brother R.L. Thompson of Honaker, Virginia; two sisters, Kitty Lusby of Prince Fredrick, Maryland and Nancy Bensing of North Beach, Maryland; several nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday at the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel in Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Larry Robinson Officiating. Interment will follow in the Ketron memorial Gardens, Lebanon, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Thursday at Honaker Funeral Home.
