Robert Gerald Armstrong, 88 of Shreve passed away at his home Monday, August 2, 2021.
Gerald was born August 4, 1932 in Holmes Co. to the late Kenneth and Elizabeth (Phillips) Armstrong. He married Mary Lynn Leedy in 1951 and she preceded him August 8, 2016.
He was a graduate of Shreve High School, received his bachelor's degree in agriculture from The Ohio State University in 1954 and his DVM from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced veterinary medicine in Louisville from 1958 until his retirement. He was a long-time member of the Louisville Rotary Club and he and his wife were highly involved in the foreign exchange student program for many years. He was a member of the Shreve Presbyterian Church.
Being an OSU alumnus, he was an avid Buckeye's fan, maintaining season tickets for years. Gerald was also a member of the President Club. He enjoyed watching the Cleveland Indians. Mary Lynn and Gerald supported their grandchildren in all of their activities and would drive across the state to watch them play; they were their biggest cheerleaders.
After retirement, he and Mary Lynn moved back to the family farm that he loved, he lived there longer than anywhere else during his life. Also in retirement, they would winter in Ft. Myers, FL for over 30 years.
Surviving him are a son Roger (Carol) Armstrong of Bonita Springs, FL and daughter, Lynn Ann (Jon) Stokey of Defiance; grandchildren, Ryan (Lori) Armstrong of Louisville, Brandon (Stephanie) Stokey of Maumee, Julie (Aaron Wyse) Stokey of Defiance, Phillip (Alyson) Stokey of Maumee; greatgrandchildren, Olivia Lynn Armstrong, Tyler Grant Armstrong, Ethan Robert Armstrong, Augustus Gerald Stokey, and Leedy Lynn Stokey; brother, Richard "Pete" Armstrong of Wooster; and a sister Donna Wachtel of Millersburg.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son Richard Gregg Armstrong; brother, Kenneth Lemoyne Armstrong; and a sister, Dorothy Spurlock.
