Melba was born May 17, 1931, in Natchitoches, LA, to the late Floy King Cox and Mac Bamburg. She was preceded in death by her husband Aubrie Antilley, a retired Chief Master Sargent in the United States Air Force, and her sister Marita Barnett. While in the Air Force, they moved all over the country being stationed in Texas, Louisiana, North Dakota, and Puerto Rico. After Aubrie left the service, they settled near Haughton, LA in the Merrywoods subdivision where Aubrie continued his career at the Bingham Willamette pump repair facility in Shreveport and Melba began teaching full time at Platt elementary. While in the Haughton community, Melba obtained her masters and +30 in elementary education from LSU. For over 20 years she used her skills, education, and talents to enrich the lives of many Platt Elementary, TL Rhodes Elementary, and gifted students throughout Bossier Parish. Aubrie and Melba were dedicated to Christ and actively participated in what was known at the time as Haughton Baptist Church where they both taught Sunday school for over 25 years. Over the past 10 years, Melba's age and health issues caused her to move back and forth from Haughton to Warner Robbins, Georgia and then to Jonesboro, Arkansas where she was watched and cared for by her elder children. Melba was amazing in every way. She had bright blue eyes that sparkled and a lovely smile that would light up a room. She loved meeting people and talking to anyone that would take the time to have a conversation with her. She loved to sing and was an active member of her church's choir into her 80s. She was talented and could do anything she set her mind to. Some of her passions were gardening, sewing, wood working, and painting. She loved making dolls, quilts, Christmas decorations, clothes, and knick knacks for her home. She continued to work in her yard into her 80s and always loved decorating her house for Christmas.
Melba is survived and will be deeply missed by her three loving children and their spouses: daughter Kathy Boudreaux and husband Stacy of Warner Robins, GA; son Aubrey Antilley and wife Connie of Jonesboro, AR; and youngest son Brian Antilley and wife Jessica of Baton Rouge, LA. She also leaves behind five grandchildren: David Boudreaux (Adam Malinowski), Danny Antilley, Katie Boudreaux (Nick Price), Emma Antilley, and Evan Antilley, all of whom she cherished and adored.
While her family and friends will miss her, please rejoice with us that she has gone on to a better place that is free of pain and suffering and will be reunited with her husband and parents. She spent her life serving God and is now at peace in the arms of our Savior.
Visitation will be held on August 7, 2021, from 9:00am to 11:00am at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home & Park in Haughton, LA, followed by the burial and a brief graveside service.
