Vincent Martinek was born in Silesia, Austria, June 24, 1868. At sixteen years of age he with his parents emigrated to the United States and located at St. Joseph, Mo. He remained there one year and then came to this community where he has since resided. On September 1, 1890, he was married to Miss Agnes Simecka.
In the death of Mr. Martinek the community has lost a useful and much esteemed citizen. He was progressive and held many responsible positions. By hard work, frugality and business foresight, he has accumulated a goodly share of this worlds goods, but he was always strictly honest. He was generous and helpful to those who were less fortunate than himself, always ready to help those in need. He was a kind husband and indulgent father and a good neighbor. Mr. Martinek leaves to mourn his death, his faithful wife, eight sons and four daughters, one brother and four sisters. His father died at his home in Oklahoma just twelve hours previous to his departure. Mr. Martinek was 48 years 1 month and 1 days old at the time of his death in Francis hospital, Topeka.
The funeral services were held in the Catholic Church at Delia, Monday, August 7, Rev. Father Sullivan officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery at St. Marys and were followed by a large concourse of sorrowing friends and neighbors.
