She was the daughter of Elijah and Amanda (Spicklemire) Chenoweth. In 1900, Anna was recorded in the census as the oldest child of 7 living at home in Danville, Illinois. Her parents were born in Indiana, but she and all of her siblings were born in Illinois. Her siblings listed in 1900 were: William, age 21; Emma, age 18; Rebecca, age 16; Nellie, age 13; Naoma, age 8; and Dean, age 6.

She married Omer Clarence Hornaday in Danville, Vermillion County, Illinois on October 16, 1906.

In 1910, she and Omer were living in Vernon Township, Washington County, Indiana. There were two children, Paul, age 9, who was Omer's son from a previous marriage and Constance, age 2, who was Anna and Omer's daughter.

In 1920, they were living in Brownsburg and had added a daughter, Margaret, about 1913. In 1930, Margaret was the only child still living at home.
