Richard Mason Shaw Jr. was born at the Old Torrance Memorial Hospital in Torrance, CA. He was one of the first Cesarean Section births performed there. His grandmother, Susie Albers nicknamed him "Sonny" as a child. Al Jolson's song "Sonny Boy" was popular at the time. He lived for awhile in San Dimas, CA with his parents, when he was a boy. He also worked, with his father, selling home grown vegetables, in Redondo Beach, CA, where they, then, lived, for a time, as a boy. He graduated from Redondo Union High School.
He served in the U.S. Military / Aero Squadron, performing his military duty. After military service he was hired by Standard Oil in El Segundo, CA, and was there until his retirement. My guess is that he was about 21 or 22 years old when he married Margaret Mary Edmonds who became Mrs. Shaw. Shortly after they were married, in 1949 or 1950 their daughter, Cindy was born. Next came their son, Richard Mason Shaw III "Rick" approximately 1951 or 1952. Margaret Mary "Margie" passed away in 1972. A few years later he married Valda "Louise" Garneau and she became the 2nd Mrs. Shaw. She passed away in 2007. Richard Mason Shaw Jr. "Dick" lived to the ripe old age of 94 when he passed away in 2021.
