Joyce was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University, and held master's degrees from Eastern Illinois University and the University of Illinois in both education and social work. She went on to work as a teacher in many schools including Beecher City, St. Elmo, Tower Hill, and even in Florida during the time she lived there. She also served as a social worker at some of these schools. Joyce was an avid reader and always maintained interest in what was happening back on the Barringer family farm. She loved visiting with her family to catch up on news and events and especially spending time loving on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Along with her husband, Joyce is survived by her children: Brad (Diana) Foor, Neoga, IL and Clint (Marla) Foor, Tower Hill, IL; stepchildren: Linda (Tom) Adams, Bloomington, IL; Tom (Shannon) Pennypacker, Newport, TN; Lisa (Roger) Henschen, Pana, IL; grandchildren: Kimberly (Caleb) Dick, Crystal (Chris) Holmes, Kayla (Jeff) Deters, Olivia (Evan) Preston, Alicia Foor; step-grandchildren: Greg (Katie) Chick, Kara (Carl) Amos, Savannah Pennypacker, Dalton Pennypacker, Nick (Kiley) Maton; great-grandchildren: Cody Dick, Cameron Dick, Charlotte Deters; step-great-grandchildren; Madison, Zach, Taylor, Callaway, Raylan, Raia; and sister: Judy Vits, Pana. She was preceded by her parents and brother, Larry Barringer.
A memorial service for Joyce will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of the service. Per Joyce's wishes, private inurnment will be held at Linwood Cemetery, Pana.
Memorials in Joyce's honor may be made to the American Cancer Association, 687 E. Linton Ave., Springfield, IL 62703, and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
