Elihu was the third son of Deacon Elihu Sperry and Abigail Barnes. He married Chloe Harmon in Suffield, Connecticut in 1803. His only son, Elihu, was born shortly thereafter. He died a few years later around age 25. His wife would remarry and move out west to Ohio. His son would bring his family to Wisconsin.
