Daughter of Matthew Carter (1810 - ?) and Anna Caroline Hartsfield (1810 - ?) (the daughter of Reuben Hartsfield and Matthew's second wife), she married Giles on 6 March 1856 in Perry County, Mississippi. Sabra has been said by some researchers to have had Indian ancestry, possibly Choctaw, possibly Seminole. One story told about her by descendants is that she was caught alone in a canoe during a storm and killed a deer with an oar when it tried to get into the boat. [Biographical information provided by Dawnetta and The Mikado, et al.]

There was another Sabra Carter in Perry County, parents John and Elizabeth, siblings Sarah, Mary, Margaret, Julia, and Eran. Possibly this was crossed up with Sabra A from Jasper County.
