Phillippine Insurrection Medal of Honor Recipient. During the Philippine-American War, he served as a Sergeant Major Artificer in Company F, 36th US Volunteer Infantry. On November 9, 1899, at Bamban Luzon, Phillippine Islands, he displayed conspicuous gallantry in action against hostile Filipino insurgents when his unit was attacked. For distinguished bravery, he was awarded the Medal of Honor on April 30, 1902.
