Service for Lawrence A. Shining, 66, a 63-year Spokane Valley resident, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Shining died Sunday at his home in Greenacres.

Born January 24, 1919, in Cunningham, Washington, he came to the Spokane Valley in 1922 with his parents, Alfred A. and Zelma R. (Coates) Shining.

In 1939 he moved to Greenacres, and for several years had his own garage there. As well as repairing cars, he did volunteer repairs on bicycles for neighborhood children. He was active in Scouting and the PTA.

Mr. Shining was with Keller Motor Supply about 15 years and retired in 1979 after 13 years as a parts man for Pontiac City.

He started Community Radio Watch on CB Channel 3 in 1970 to provide "mile-post communication by CB'ers for Bloomsday and other area runs.

During World War II he served with an Army tank division in Europe.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy A. Shining, at the home; two sons, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Lee and Jackie Shining of Whitefish, Montana, and Mr. and Mrs. David Alfred and Janet Shining of Newman Lake; his mother, Zelma Shining of Greenacres; and four grandchildren.
