Death of Walter Lee Austin.

Only a few days ago Walter Lee Austin, a former citizen of Newkirk but for the past four years a resident of Ft. Stockton, Texas, came home to die, with that dread disease tuberculosis. Death came Monday morning at 9 a.m., at the home of his sister, Mrs. E.P. Brooks.

Mr. Austin was born May 11th, 1868, in Hamlin county, Tennessee. he came to Oklahoma in 1893, the date of the opening of the Cherokee Strip. His death leaves to mourn a wife, two sons, three brothers and five sisters. The deceased was converted and became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church in Newkirk and when he realized the end was approaching it was his desire to pass the closing hours at the old home. He passed away peacefully and expressed his resignation to God's will. Rev. Brannon conducted the funeral Tuesday at 2 o'clock.

Walter Austin was an active, energetic business man. For several years he was engaged in the real estate and farm loan business. Through his efforts many home seekers have found desirable locations both here and in the vicinity of Ft. Stockton, Texas.
