Dr. Jacob W. King was a physician of note and, as were many in his family, he was also a minister. He was the son of Dr. Charles A. King and Susan Unknown. He was married to Sarah Anne Mayes (1822-1880), daughter of James Mayes and Mary Ann (m. Mayes, Briggs) Glenn, and together they had the following children: Pickney King, Susan King, Dr. Charles Asbury King (1842-1913), Martha Mary "Mattie" [Walker] King (1846-1899), Frances Regina [Kennedy] King (1848-1919), Lavonia King (1849-1912), Sarah Glenn "Sally" King, (1853-1900) and Dr. Jacob Harvey Curry King (1860-1939).
