Mike moved around a lot in the early part of his life. He attended Provo High School and later settled down in Emery County where he resided for the rest of his life. In 1975, he started at Deer Creek Coal Mine and worked there until 2009. In 1981, he married Jackie Garcia and together they had three amazing children. They later divorced.
His claim to fame was his giant buck that he killed when he was 16 years old. His mule deer scored 262, it had 14 points on one side and 12 points on the other. This deer landed him in the Boone and Crockett record book. His hobbies included: shooting guns, reading true crime novels, collecting guns, camping, and fishing. He really enjoyed his Thursday morning coffee time with his old mining buddies.
He is preceded in death by his father, Ferrel Atwood.
Mike is survived by his mother, Sally Atwood; three children, Jake (Heather) Atwood, Shiann Atwood (Derek Wickman), and Zeke (Allie) Atwood; his siblings, Kathi Atwood, Gayle (Craig) Mecham, Rusty (Susan) Atwood, David (Polly) Atwood. He is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Jadin, Skye, Leah, Paityn, Boston, Jaxton Atwood and Shawn Cropper. The grandchildren loved coming to visit grandpa where he always had a pocket of candy.
Mike wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread over a waterfall at his favorite spot in Argyle Canyon in a private service. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home
