Mr. Fred Levon Brake, 83, of Goodway Junction died Monday, October 14, 2019, at his home.

A 1955 graduate of Frisco City High School, he began his career as a chemical operator in 1957 at Monsanto in Cantonment, FL. He served 15 years in the plant's fire department and was a certified Emergency Medical Technician in the State of Florida. Following his retirement in1991, he was a self-employed general contractor in the Monroe County area.

Fred (affectionally known as Mr. Fred) served as fire chief for the Goodway Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years. He also served on the board of directors, and was a certified water operator, for the Uriah Water System for many years. For the past several years, he served as the board's president until September 2019.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Acie and Queenie Brooks Brake of Megargel; three brothers, Ralph Brake, Quentin Brake, and Dalphard Brake; three sisters, Annie Mae Pipkin, Allice Brake Clark, and Lucy Brake Ridgley.

Fred is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol Qualls Brake; three daughters, Debbie (Rob) Scott of Eliska, Ginnie (Bobby) Hood of Monroeville, Diane Brake Everette of Andalusia; one sister, Betty Brake Coleman of Perry, GA; six grandchildren, Brian (Heidie) Cumbie of Greenville, SC, Erik (Barbara) Hood of Daphne, Robyn Scott (Jon) Gentry of Williamsburg, VA, Leigh Ann Everette (Cody) Parker of Auburn, Mary Catherine Hood (Jessie) Bailey of Daphne, John Everette (Lindsey Gindl) of Pensacola, FL; one step-granddaughter, Jennifer Scott (Dan) Thompson of Auburn; a devoted nephew and niece, Ricky and Janie Qualls Wilkins; 11 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 15, 2019, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 16, 2019, with the Rev. Matt Brown and the Rev. Diane Everette officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery at Jeddo.
