Earl Wilfred Peterson

FAIRFIELD —Earl Peterson, 91, of Fairfield, passed away from natural causes on February 13, 2017.

He was born near Miles City, MT on September 2, 1925 to Ernest W. and Anna O. Peterson. He was the youngest of 8 children. Earl was raised on a small farm/ranch just out of Miles City. He graduated from Custer County High School, served in the US Army and went to Miles City Community College. Earl married Lauretta M. Burshek on June 13, 1949. Earl and Lauretta moved to Great Falls and Earl worked for Grogan-Robinson Lumber for a total of 17 years. As his family grew he moved to Highwood to manage a lumber yard there and then on to Geraldine, where he also managed a lumber yard for Grogan-Robinson. The spring of '67, Earl and Lauretta moved their family just north of the Fairfield Bench, where they farmed both dryland and irrigated crop ground and raised grain and beef cattle.

Earl served as the Water Operations Manager for the Tri-County Water System the first 25 years of its' existence. Earl was active in the Teton County Farm Bureau, St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Fairfield Drop in Center.

Earl is survived by his wife, Lauretta; daughters Victoria (Ken) Holmes of Fairfield, Agnes (Russ) Kolste of Fairfield, and Kathie (Dick) Flanders of Meredith, NH; son Ernie (Diane) Peterson of Great Falls; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters and 3 brothers.

Services are pending. Cremation has taken place through Schnider Funeral Home.
