James William Allgood was born on July 6, 1931 in Louisville, Ky. To Walter E. Allgood and Lillie Catherine (Bennett) Allgood. He grew up in Elizabeth, Ind. Until his family moved to New Albany, Ind., which he considered home. After high school he attended the University of Indiana at Bloomington, where he earned a Master's Degree, and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He served in the U. S. Air Force from 1953 to 1955 as an aircraft intercept controller. After his military service he worked for the Internal Revenue Service, first as a collection agent in the Appalachian area, but mainly as a Public Information Officer. He had also returned to school and earned his second Master's Degree. He married Norma "Sandy" Marcum on March 30, 2013, and he has lived in Hartshorne since 2017.

James is survived by his wife, Norma "Sandy" Allgood; step-children, Clint Pope and wife Sheri and Jerri Lozano; several grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Bill Wilson; sisters-in-law, Barbara Allgood and Helen Allgood; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers and a sister-in-law, William J. Curry and his wife Thelma, David C. Allgood, and Franklin D. Allgood.
