Prominent Dentist and Mason Succumbs at Home Here
Dr. Virgil O. Barlow, 53-year-old dentist and prominent Shreveporter, died of a heart attack in his sleep early yesterday morning. According to Deputy Coroner Charles S. Boone, Dr. Barlow was found dead in his home, 525 Elmwood street, about 3 a.m. by his wife. Dr. Boone said the man had been dead about an hour when his body was discovered. Funeral services will he held at 10 today in the Osborn chapel with Dr. M E Dodd, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will he in Forest Park cemetery. Dr. Barlow was a member of the First Baptist church and of the church board of directors. He was Shriner and 32nd degree Mason. A member of the Fourth District Dental association for many years, he served as president of that body in 1929, and as secretary in 1934. Mrs. Barlow said the doctor complained of indigestion Thursday night after having eaten a duck dinner. He declined to see a physician, she said, but retired early. She inquired about his condition about 11 p.m., she said, and he told her he was all right. She checked on his condition once more during the night before she awakened to find him dead. Besides his widow, Dr. Barlow is survived by one daughter, Miss Sara Jac Barlow, of Shreveport; his mother, Mrs. M. Ballard, of Pleasant Hill; three brochers, Dr. C. S. Barlow, of Shreveport, N. W. Barlow, of Harmon, and John Barlow, of Pelican; one sister, Mrs. Ola Blankenship, of Natchitoches; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Dr. J. E. Scott, Dr. James Gray, Dr. P. C. Blount, W. H. Bankston, T. E. Ellington, and Dr. G. M. Stamper. Honorary pallbearers will he the members of the Fourth District Dental association.
