Martha D. Brooks was born in Hart Co., Ky., March 21, 1828 and died in Stanford, Ill., July 21, 1892, aged 64 years, 4 mos. In the spring of 1830 she came with her parents to Illinois, and settled at Brooks' Grove near the present village of Stanford. Her home has been in Iowa since 1845 when she was married to Wm. B. Strand, who died in 1853. She afterwards became the wife of Mason Harding who still survives. She was for 36 years a follower of Christ and trusting in her Leader, fell asleep.
