Wesley was born August 16, 1955, in Oklahoma City, OK, the son of Erwin Dean and Freda Marie (Graves) Atkinson. He died July 17, 2021 at the Oklahoma Veteran's Center in Ardmore, OK at the age of 65.
Wesley grew up in Oklahoma. After graduation he joined the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a welder for the Navy and was honorably discharged. Wesley took great pride in his service for his county. After his service with the Navy, he relocated to Missouri where he spent a lot of time hauling ice with J.D. McClanahan. Wesley enjoyed watching cooking shows and trips to Wal-Mart. Many things brought him great joy, but perhaps the thing he loved most was antagonizing and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Tyna Gates and husband Bryan, and Patsy Dejournett and husband Chris; son, "Willy" Atkinson and wife Candi; wife, Leisa Ann Atkinson; sister, Teresa McClanahan; five grandchildren, Brian and wife Nikkie, Christopher, Samantha, Jakan Blaine, and Jazlyn Claire; four great-grandchildren, Bayleigh, Addisyn, Mason, and Nicklous; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy Lee Atkinson, and Cecil Atkinson; two grandchildren, Justin Ray, and Michael Tre'; and great-grandchild, Evelynn.
Honorary casket bearers will be his two brothers, Jimmy and Cecil Atkinson, J.D. McClanahan; two grandsons, Justin Ray, and Michael Tre'.
