Jennie Carpenter Gibbs was the daughter of Civil War Veteran William Henry Carpenter and the Irish-born Mary Pembroke. In 1900 she married Walter Gibbs. They had two children, George Washington Gibbs and Marie Gibbs Scott.Her husband Walter died by 1910 and Jennie had tp raise the children by herself and also took care of her aging and ailing father William H.Carpenter till he died in 1918 at age 81.
