She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Eva loved serving others; whether it was mending a clothing item, fixing a sewing machine, or having people over for a Sunday roast dinner. More than anything else though, she loved telling others about the Lord Jesus and His wonderful salvation. She knew with absolute certainty that she had been saved through the death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and she wanted to tell others so they could be sure too.
Eva Mae was born August 27, 1925 to George and Retti Arkebauer and grew up on the family farm in Nokomis, IL.
Eva was convicted of her need to be saved in Sunday School class as a young child and faithfully followed her Lord Jesus the rest of her life.
She lost her parents in a train accident while a teenager and eventually moved to St. Louis, MO. While there, she met Ervin Sutherland who was serving in the Army. He won her hand and they were married December 14, 1951. They made their home in Des Moines, IA and added five children to their family: Ruth (Frank) Harder, Jonathan (Mary), Mark (Debby), Daniel (Rachel), and Paul (Esther).
Later in life, Ervin and Eva moved to Pleasant Hill, IA just down the street from Frank and Ruth. As the years went by, they moved in with Frank and Ruth who cared for both of them until their move to heaven.
Eva was preceded in death by her husband,
and is survived by her children, many grandchildren, and many, many great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed, but we look forward to a joyous reunion in Heaven.
Graveside services will be held at 9:30 AM, Monday, July 19, 2021 at Iowa Veterans Cemetery, 34024 Veterans Memorial Dr, Adel. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
