Doris Grizzel, 82, of Albany died Sunday at the Salem Hospital.
She was born in Park Rapids, Minn., the daughter of LeRoy and Wilhelmina (Barg) Sackett. She attended schools in Coos Bay, Santiam Central, Jefferson and Silverton. She graduated from Portland Union Academy. Doris attended Walla Walla College for her pre-nursing while attending the Portland School of Nursing. She received her nursing degree from Walla Walla College.
Doris married Charles Wesley Grizzel on Nov. 14, 1947, in Vancouver. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1989.
Doris was a nurse at Salem Memorial Hospital for more than 24 years. She volunteered, took blood pressure checks and gave injections for Adventists Mobile Unit, the senior center and for neighbors. She served as secretary of the Farmers Union.
Doris is survived by children Jeanine Aguilar of Portland, Pauline Grizzel of Albany, Charline Grizzel of Camas, Forrest Grizzel of Jefferson and Julie Meyers of Corvallis; grandchildren Charla, Chareesa, Joel, Missy, Chrissi and Alli; brothers Louis Sackett, Harold Millard and William Millard; and sister Verna Travis, Laura Lee Meador and Jennifer Millard.
A memorial service will be Saturday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Albany. Interment will be at the Jefferson Cemetery.
