Civil war record and profiles shows Judson Cummings enlisted at the age of 18 as a Private in New Albion, NY for the state of New York and survived the war. He enlisted in Company B, New York 154th Infantry Regiment on 17 Sep 1864. Mustered out on 11 Jun 1865 at Bladensburg, MD.

Death certificate shows he was the son of William S. Cummings and Lida Woodmancy (both of NY), male, white, married, farmer, parent of 3 children, 2 living, born 1850 NY and died on March 5, 1903 St. Louis, Gratiot Co., MI at the age of 53, cause of death, evidently died of heart disease, deceased was taken suddenly ill and expired be medical aid could be secured. Burial was on March 7, 1903 St. Louis, MI.

Family tree sources show he was the son of William Wellington and Lydia (Woodmansee) Cummings. He married Sophronia Sias on October 8, 1859 in Gratiot Co., MI. They were the parents of Ora Cummings, Ira Cummings, George Cummings, Avery Cummings, Nettie Cummings, and Edith Cummings.
