James L. Hayden, of Shreveport, Louisiana, died peacefully on July 13, 2021 after a lengthy illness. He lived a beautiful life of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucious and Eleanor Hayden; his sister, Bonnie McKever; and his three nephews.

Mr. Hayden is survived by a loving family: three daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa Crowder, Monica and Kevin Craig, Jamie and Dr. Benjamin Hogg; as well as their mother, Frances Hayden; his eight grandchildren, Ty and Lisa M. Crowder, David and Carrie Crowder, Elyana Crowder, Hayden and Adalyn Craig, Lane and Grant Jones, Landon Craig, Clayton Craig, and Reaves Hogg. He also had three great-grandsons, Tate, Sammy and Henry James Crowder.

Mr. Hayden served in the United States Air Force with love and pride for his country. One of his memorable achievements was the work he did for Xerox where he once collaborated on the development of a small printer used on the Apollo mission. He was hard working and could fix almost anything. He was extremely creative and industrious. He was a stylish gentleman, with impeccable taste who enjoyed art, music, and especially cars. Mr. Hayden was kind and strong. He always provided for his family and was ready to help others in need. He truly was a friend to all.

He will be missed by his family who wish to thank the Home-Based Primary Care teams at the OBVAMC for their loving support over the past few years.

A memorial service for Mr. Hayden will be held on Friday, July 16, 2021 in Couch Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Shreveport. His family will welcome those wishing to pay their respects at this memorial service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to one of the following: Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Elloree, South Carolina, Shriners Hospital for Children in Shreveport, or Volunteers of America Veterans Transitional Living Program.
