F. Nate Kelley, former prominent Rockford resident and businessman, died suddenly early Sunday in his home at 1801 Bay View drive, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Mr. Kelley, of the Kelley-Williamson Oil Company, first started in the oil business in 1904, when he was employed by R.J. Bryhn. Bryhn's was among the first companies to have auto service stations in Rockford and was one of the first independent service station dealers in Rockford.

Mr. Kelley was a native of Chicago.

In 1926, Kelley and Walter Williamson bought out the Rockford Oil company, which consisted of five stations, from a Mr. McBride. Mr. Kelley sold his interest in the business to Williamson in February, 1951. At that time, the partners had a chain of 29 stations.

Mr. Kelley was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, of Rockford, 32nd degree Mason and member of the Shrine. He was a former member of the Rockford Country club, and, with his brother Earl, was known as a top golfer. He took great interest in working in the yard of his home on Guilford rd., near Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country club and took pride in his apple orchard.

The Kelley's sold their home to Ronnie Mattison six months ago, and move to Florida where they purchased a home.

Survivors include his widow, the former Laura Wifenbach of Rockford, and one sister, Helen DeGrosse, Los Angles, Cal.
