Viola Jane Reeder Brewer, a longtime resident of Los Molinos, passed away on July 2, 2021 in Red Bluff, California. She was 97 years young. Viola was born on April 16, 1924 to Joseph and Fannie Reeder in Burdett, Colorado. She lived her youngest years there on the high plains of Eastern Colorado until 1931. Then, in the midst of the Dustbowl and Great Depression, the Reeder's packed everything they owned into their car and headed west. Their first stop was to harvest fruit in the Springfield Oregon area before proceeding south. The Reeder family arrived in Tehama County in 1932 and initially settled into a tent near the Tehama Bridge. Later on, they moved into a house in the City of Tehama and then across the river to Los Molinos onto property that is now part of the Los Molinos High School campus.

Viola attended Elementary schools in Colorado and Tehama and Los Molinos High School.

Viola married Kendric Frank Brewer on March 11, 1941. To this union were born five children; Kenny Ray, Sharon, Jerry, Mike and Connie. Viola and Ken initially lived in Napa County where Ken managed a Horse Ranch. In the mid-40 they moved back to Los Molinos. And in 1959 they moved to their ranch on Wilson Street north of Los Molinos. From there, Ken and Vi operated a ranch and Livestock Hauling business for many years.

Viola was a dedicated Housewife and Mother. But she also worked for a time picking fruit and at Wheeler's Strawberry Nursery and seasonally at the Salmon Hatchery on Mill Creek.

In 1965 the Brewer's built the roping arena on their ranch and staged competitive team-roping events. While Ken and Sons tended to the steers and arena, Viola and daughters prepared and sold food and drinks at the snack bar for many years. After more than 42 years of marriage, Viola's husband Ken Brewer died in 1983. Viola cared for her son, Kenny Ray, who was injured in a roping accident in 1971 for many years until his death in 2011.

Viola lived on the family Ranch until 2017. From that point on she resided intermittently with Daughter Sharon and Son-in-Law Sam Poole and Daughter Connie and Son-in-Law Danny Wagner. Like her Mother Fannie and her sisters, Viola enjoyed slot machines and loved to gamble in Reno, and later at the Rolling Hills Casino in Corning.

Viola was a fun-loving optimist who cared deeply for people and enjoyed life. She was a gentle soul, who seldom uttered an unkind word. She brightened every room she walked into and served as a terrific role model of for all of us lucky enough to know her.

Viola was preceded in death by Husband Kendric, son Kenny Ray, parents Joseph and Fannie Reeder, Brothers James, Rufus, Oscar and Elmer Reeder, Sisters Ida Boyd, Hazel Brewer, and Betty Lou Hawkins.

She is survived by Sister Ruby (Jack) Clark of Sacramento, Sister-in-Law Vada Reeder of Sacramento, Daughter Sharon (Sam) Poole, Son Jerry (Ina) Brewer, Son Mike Brewer, Daughter Connie (Danny) Wagner, all of Los Molinos, many Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren and Nieces and Nephews.
