Arnold K. Adams, 93, of Brookings, passed away on July 7, 2021, at home under hospice care surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at 10:30 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Brookings. Burial will immediately follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery in Brookings. All are invited to join the family for a time of fellowship following burial at the Community Life Center, located directly north of the First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings.
Arnie Adams was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on March 17, 1928, to Matthew and Randi (Thorsen) Adams. At the age of 3 he moved to a farm north of Brookings. He attended country school.
He joined the Navy in January of 1946. He was a participant in the Operation Crossroads Nuclear Weapons Test at Bikini Atoll in 1946. He was honorably discharged in October of 1947. After returning home, he worked for four years at Crase Hatchery before beginning his farming career from 1950 until 1985. He then went to work for the City of Brookings from March of 1985 until his retirement in 2012. On August 25, 1957, Arnie married Shirley McCuen.
Arnie's hobbies included hunting, fishing, dancing, roller-skating, bowling, golfing, and his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Shirley Adams; children: grandchildren: his great-grandchildren: and several nieces and nephews.
Arnie is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings and their spouses.
