Bertha Fry 113, Muncie, IN, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
She was born December 1, 1893 in Switzerland County, Indiana, the daughter of Morton and Lillie VanOsdol.
Bertha attended Hanover College and taught in a one room school house in southern Indiana. She moved to Indianapolis shortly after her first marriage and lived there until she moved to Westminster Village, Muncie in 1979.
Bertha lived independently in her original apartment until July 2007. She was the second oldest living person in Indiana and the United States and third oldest in the world.
Mrs. Fry is survived by her son, Wayne Gray, Martinsville; a daughter, Barbara Money, Muncie; five grandchildren, Ken Gray, Karen Scamihorn, Paula Luzader, Lee Ann Merket and Sandra Dolce; nine great grandchildren, Lisa and Jenini Gray, Ben Scamihorn, Catie Chevrier, Stewart, Philip and Heather Luzader, Jim and Sara Dolce, and one great-great grandson, John Scamihorn.
Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17, 2007 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 Isanogel Rd., Yorktown, with Pastor Colby Smith officiating. A graveside service and burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2007 in the Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
