Barry Leon Nielsen, 60, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at his home in Dinosaur, Colorado and was pronounced dead at the hospital in Rangely, Colorado. He was born February 2, 1947 to Anthon Ray and Leda Ovilla Rigby Nielsen, in Salt Lake City, the third and youngest child of his parents. He graduated in the West High class of 1965 in Salt Lake.



He married Donna Jean Tew from Seattle, Washington, on July 16, 1971 in the Logan Utah LDS Temple, and they both graduated from Brigham Young University in 1972. Barry enjoyed photographing nature and his family. He also loved classical music, was a new amateur radio operator, and was active in his local LDS Church. He had lived and worked all over the country, including Utah, Washington state, New Mexico, Mississippi, Iowa, Delaware, and Maine. He also spent two months in Romania in 1994 and two and one half years in Asia in 1966-1968, in Hong Kong and the Philippines as an LDS Missionary. He was working at the Forest Service in Vernal, Utah at the time of his death and was looking forward to his scheduled retirement from the Federal Government in less than two months.




He is survived by his wife, Donna (of Dinosaur); his sister Judy (Gary) Simister of St. George, Utah; his five children: sons Bryan, Bryce, and Joshua in Dinosaur, his daughter Heidi in Bremerton, Washington, and son Arthur in Seattle; also many nieces and nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews and nieces, and cousins, and his mother-in-law Velma Tew of St. George. He is predeceased by both his parents, his brother Alan Ray, his father-in-law Art Tew, and other in-laws.



Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Saturday, November 17, at the Rangely LDS Chapel, 123 High Street. There will be a viewing for friends and family at the Rangely Mortuary (747 E Main St) on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. at the LDS chapel.
Burial will be at the Dinosaur Cemetery following the services.
The family would like to thank everyone who has offered support and condolences.
