Fay Falkner Quick went to be with her Lord on November 20, 2011. Fay was preceded in death by her parents, Nancy Jane Goodwin Falkner and James Jefferson Falkner, and her ten siblings. Fay moved to Columbiana, Alabama when her father was elected Sheriff of Shelby County in 1923. Fay continued the tradition of public service by becoming the first woman elected to public office in Shelby County when she became Tax Collector in 1966. She was re-elected for two more terms and retired in office in 1982. Fay was devoted to her church, the First Baptist Church of Columbiana, where she loved to sing with the senior's outreach "Joyful Sound". Fay was a poet as well as a pioneer politician. She penned numerous tributes for her family and friends and published her poems for "Joyful Sound" and her church in Sounding The Joy: A Poetic Tribute to Joyful Sound. Ever the matriarch of the Falkner clan, Fay cherished time with her relatives at the annual Falkner reunions. The family looked to her for genealogy details and anecdotal family stories.
