Mr. Bellamy was born to George Wade and Lynda Ottaway Bellamy. Mr. Bellamy was educated in the New Hanover County Schools, graduating from New Hanover High School in 1934. He was married to Doris Swinson Bellamy on October 31, 1942 and shared a wonderful life with his sweetheart for 53 years. He worked for more than 30 years for the US Post Office in Wilmington retiring as postal accountant. He also served in the US Army and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service in Combat in WW II, The Army Commendation Medal, The American Defense, American Campaign and European Campaign Medals with two stars and The Victory Medal for WW II. After retiring from both the US Post Office and the US Army, Mr. Bellamy began a new career as manager of Sea Path Towers Condominiums at Wrightsville Beach. William was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church and was active in Sunday School and various other church groups. He was a scoutmaster for the church-affiliated Boy Scout troop and served on the Cape Fear Area Boy Scout Council. He was a founding member and avid supporter of the Brigade Boys and Girls Club and a member of the Lion's Club of Wilmington. Bill, together with his wife, Doris, were enthusiastic travelers and spent time exploring the Continental United States and Canada. He kept a travel journal and photographs as they traveled so that their children and grandchildren could enjoy the experiences along with them. In the early 80s Bill, along with his brother-in-law, built a vacation home at Seven Devils in the mountains of North Carolina where they enjoyed many summers with their family and friends. Mr. Bellamy is preceded in death by his wife, Doris. He died in the Palliative Care Unit of Moses Cone Memorial Hospital at age 90.
