José Pasqual "Pewee" Martinez, age 90, our loved father and grandfather passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 in his sleep at his home of 57 years in Albuquerque, NM.
Pasqual was born in Wagon Mound, NM on March 19, 1931 to Enrique and Adelina Aguilar Martínez.
Pasqual was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Stella, son, Ralph "Stormy" and grandsons, Christopher and Adam.
Pasqual is survived by daughters, Patricia and Donald Combs, Cynthia and Travis Northington, Lucy Martínez and Andrew Chávez, daughter-in-law, Angela P. Martínez, grandchildren, Patrick Deely, Leslie Peterson, Erin Curtis, Stephen Martínez, Marcus Jaramillo and Melanie Marra and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren along with nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and godchildren. Pasqual is also survived by sisters, Laticia Shelton and Marcella Calloway. Pasqual was raised with two nephews, and one niece whom he considered siblings, Alfonso Cruz Jr. and his wife, Bessie, Lillian Martínez and Phillip Cruz (deceased) and his wife, Emma.
Pasqual was a father figure to so many who loved him.
His siblings who preceded him death were Cleofes, Alfonso, Eloy, Priscilla, Lupita, Severino, Napoleon, Christoval, Rafael and Rudolfo.
Pasqual was raised by his sister, Pricilla and her husband, Alfonso Cruz and grew up on a ranch in Holman, NM.
Pasqual was a proud United States Army Korean War veteran and a member of the Operating Engineers Union.
Pasqual was a heavy equipment operator and in his last working years worked hauling heavy equipment after which he retired from Universal Construction. His legacy is in many roads around the state of New Mexico.
Pasqual was a devoted Catholic and was devoted to his patron Saint San Pasqual. Pasqual loved cooking and made the best red and green chili, chicos and chow-chow. Pasqual loved to garden and his harvests were unequaled in the neighborhood. One of his favorite sayings was "Eating is serious business!"
Thank you to his daughter, Lucy, partner Andrew, granddaughter, Melanie, and the caring staff at the VA for his care during his final years.
Pasqual will always be in our hearts and we will miss him dearly.
A service will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1860 Griegos Rd. NW, Albuquerque, NM on Monday, July 19, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Celebration of Life will be held immediately after at the Moose Lodge, 2121 Edith Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM. A graveside memorial honoring his military service will be held at a later date at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM, where Pasqual will join Stella at rest.
