Susan Kaye Offenbecker, a resident of Jenison, Michigan and long time Grand Rapids area nurse and educator, died peacefully in the care of her family on July 4, 2021 at the age of 72.

Born on September 8, 1948 the daughter of Charles and Lois (Steele) Sikkema, Sue grew up in Grandville where she was a graduate of Grandville High School. She later studied at Ferris State University and earned her nursing degree at Davenport College. She earned her Masters in Nursing Education with Walden University and was working towards her doctorate. During her career she served as Head Nurse in the emergency room at Grand Rapids Osteopathic Hospital, Charge Nurse in the ER at a Blodgett Hospital, Nursing Supervisor in the emergency department at St. Mary's Hospital, and was one of seven nurses selected to participate in the inaugural E-Unit program of the Kent County Sheriff Department.

In recent years she enjoyed the opportunity to teach and serve as a professor at Davenport College. Sue's career and mission was important to her, and she was ever successful at balancing meetings and committees, and work and school, as she sought to grow her knowledge and ability to serve the medical community.
