James Berry Farley 1932-2021

James Berry "Grandpa" Farley truly celebrated freedom by entering paradise with Jesus on Sunday, July 4, 2021 at his home in Spencer at the age of 88. James was born September 26, 1932 in Prague, Oklahoma to James Hiram and Mary Berry (Pickett) Farley.
James grew up and attended school in Prague, graduating High School in 1952. He then began his 37-year career at Tinker Air Force Base as an aircraft mechanic and fuel control specialist. During his 37-year tenure, he received several recognitions and monetary awards before retiring in 1989.
James loved roller skating. You could find him heading from Prague to Shawnee every chance he got for an evening of skating. Nearly a year after first meeting her on a blind skate date, James married Joyce Smith June 9, 1962 in Midwest City. The couple later made their home in Spencer and began raising their family.
James was an active member of the Free Methodist Church in Midwest City. The study of scripture and theology were one of his biggest passions. This resulted in over fifty years of fervently teaching adult Bible study classes. As a selftaught John Wesley Scholar, one might have thought James and Wesley had been the dearest
of friends. This hard-working man also had a heart for service and spent numerous hours beautifully maintaining the church lawn. He also used his love of skating as an outreach ministry to the youth of his church. Playing games, especially dominoes with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a favorite pastime. He extended his profound love for his family to countless others, gaining him the universal title of "Grandpa."
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Free Methodist Church in Midwest City with the Reverend Jeremy Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memory Gardens. Viewing will be held from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday at the Hibbs Funeral Home in Choctaw. Services have been entrusted to Hibbs Funeral Home of Choctaw. The family would like to thank the entire Traditions Health Hospice Team for their excellent and loving care and support, as well as the numerous prayers, visits, cards, meals and support of our friends and family.
