Seven-year-old Jerre Evelyn Ledbetter, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Watson Ledbetter of New Hope, died yesterday afternoon at the Huntsville Hospital from burns received Friday night at her home when her bathrobe caught fire from the flames in an open fireplace. Both parents were severely burned about the hands and arms in their efforts to extinguish the blazing robe. The child was rushed to the Huntsville Hospital by Roy Hereford, of Butler Brothers Funeral Home at New Hope, but she failed to respond to treatment. She was in the second grade at New Hope School.
Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond E. Cosby officiating. Interment will be in Hayden Cemetery, Butler Brothers Funeral Home in charge.
Surviving besides the parents are the grandfather, Melvin O. Hill of Bradenton, Fla. and a number of other relatives.
Pallbearers will be Leon Fisher, C. R. Murphy, Huston Pennington, Noah Maples, Floyd Swafford and Hubert Hill.
