Vernadene D. Christensen, 95, passed away July 2, 2021 at her home in Buhler. She was born on March 22, 1926 in Hooker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Glenn T. and Minnie (Honeman) Smith.

Vernadene was a graduate of Elkhart High School. She worked at Eddie's Dough Plant in Inman and provided child care for children who called her "Nanny". She had a love for Arts & Crafts, including crochet, painting, quilting & sewing. Vernadene and Vernon attended many craft fairs, selling the many items they made together. She was a homemaker and loved her time spent with family and friends, playing cards & games. Vernadene was an excellent baker & cook and enjoyed attending pot lucks and exchanging recipes. She was known for her cinnamon rolls and Red Velvet Cake. She was a member of Church of the Holy Cross in Hutchinson.

Vernadene married Vernon F. Christensen on December 14, 1945 in Elkhart, Kansas. She is survived by her husband, Vernon, a true soul mate; a granddaughter, Lora Carlson of Buhler; a sister, Glenda Dickey of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and many nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cheryl Carlson; two sisters, Velma Welch and Nelda Rhoads; and one brother, Harold "Sonny" Smith.
