Mattie May Markham, 94, of Broken Bow, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2005 at the Broken Bow Nursing Home. She was born May 25, 1911, in Goldwait, TX, the daughter of Clarence and Margaret Cloud Benningfield.
Mattie was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and she had been a resident of the Bethel community since 1931. She enjoyed quilting, traveling and spending time with family. Mattie especially loved her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Earl Markham.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memory six children, Alma Jo Mouton, Newton, TX; Ima Jean Smith, West Plains, MO; Billy and John Markham, both of Bethel; Linda Eversole and her husband Charles, Mena, AR and Kathy Ayres and her husband Rick, Broken Bow; one sister, Kathryn Whelply, Port Arthur, TX; thirteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, special friend, Gladys Rhoten, Bethel and host of many other friends.
Graveside services will be at 4:00 p.m., Friday, December 23, 2005, at Bethel Cemetery, Bethel. Bro. Cletus Hawkins will be officiating.
