Contributor: Larry Ciet (48444619)∼Ruth Salmonsen, 93, passed away March 4, 2013, at the Tobacco Root Mountain Care Center at Sheridan.
Ruth was born May 11, 1919, at Great Falls, to Martin and Esther (Israelson) . She was raised in Helena and moved to Sheridan when she was 17. While living in Sheridan she met and married Nels Salmonsen in 1936. They had four children: Richard, Pete, Fred, and Jean. They lived on a ranch near Sheridan prior to moving to Butte in 1949.
Once in Butte, Ruth owned the Hilltop Bar in Walkerville. In 1967 they moved to Virginia City where she managed the Pioneer Bar until she turned 75. Ruth then retired and later moved to Sheridan in 2000. The last four years of her life have been at the Tobacco Root Mountain Care Center.
Ruth lived to play pinochle and cribbage. She also loved music, enjoyed singing and was a tremendous cook.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Nels, two sons, Richard and Pete, and a sister, Ethel Lockridge.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law Fred and Carol Salmonsen of Florence, daughter and son in law Jean and Doyle Branch of Reno, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, sister Alberta Wohlfiel of New Ulm, Minnesota, and nieces Bunny Cooper and Carla Holland both of Sheridan.
The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you for the tremendous care Ruth received at the Tobacco Root Mountain Care Center.
Memorials are preferred to the charity of the donor's choice.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m. from the New Beginnings Church at Sheridan.
