Della Rose Allen, age 85, of Windthorst, Texas died on Wednesday, May 13, 2015.

Rosary will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 PM at St Mary's Catholic Church in Windthorst, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015 with Rev. Michael Moloney, FSO, Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Aulds Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Dewayne Aylor, Denny Berend, Matt Berend, Beau Berend, Lee Berend, Kyle Berend & Preston Southard.

The oldest child of Luke and Rose Zihlman, Della was born on May 20, 1929. She attended school in Windthorst, Texas. She married Herbert Berend in 1947 and they had seven children together. Following the death of her first husband in 1977, Della married her husband of 33 years, James Allen on June 13, 1981 in Windthorst, Texas.

Della worked for Haggars, Archer City Nursing home and was the owner and operator of Calico Café until her retirement in the early nineties. After retiring, Della kept busy spending many hours babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Della was a lifelong member of the Windthorst Catholic Church.

Della was known for her big hair, big smile, and big heart. She loved crocheting and made many beautiful dolls, pillows, stuffed animals and blankets that her family will cherish for years to come. Della loved bowling, Wheel of Fortune, Days of our Lives and loving on her puppies. She loved playing the piano at family events. Some of her favorite songs to play were "You are my Sunshine", "Beer Barrel Polka", "Waltz across Texas", and "Heart and Soul".

Della was preceded in death by her husband James Allen on December 30, 2014, son, Delbert Berend on May 27, 2010, her parents, and her brother and sister in law Luke (Bud) & Sylvia Zihlman.

She is survived by her sons, Rick Berend and wife Carolyn; Mike Berend and wife Cindy; Donnie Berend & wife Suzanne; Lonny Berend and wife Leann; her daughters Beverly Aylor; Darla Schroeder and husband Cletus; Daughter in law Debbie Berend; Step-children Jeanie Davis and husband David; Myrti Menoher; James (Bill) Allen and wife Karen; Brantley Allen and wife Jennifer; one brother Randy Zihlman and wife Lacy; twenty-nine grandchildren, fifty-three great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.

A special thanks to God's many servers; the staff of Hospice of Wichita Falls, Texhoma Christian Care Center and Dr. Robert Parkey. Della loved all of the special friends she made on her final journey home.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Wichita Falls and the Windthorst Volunteer Fire Department.
