Gary Ray Swearingen, 70, of Pekin, passed away at 11:58 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.


Born Dec. 8, 1946, in Peoria to Milton Frank and Hilda Marie Doubet Swearingen. He married Doris Irene Trowbridge March 21, 1998, in Pekin. She survives.


Also surviving are one stepdaughter, Laura L. (Marshall) Blick of Middleburg, Fla.; two stepsons, Thomas L. (Brenda) Pendleton of Manhattan, Kan., and Kevin Curtis of Miami, Fla.; and one sister, Betty (Rollie) Defreitas of Metamora.


He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Arrowsmith.


In April 16, 1969, he began working for Komatsu in Peoria as a welding inspector, retiring after 41 years of service.


Gary was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He later became involved with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA), serving in nearly every office over a span of 10 years.


He was a member of the Peoria Moose Lodge, the Bartonville Lions Club and Boilermakers Local 158 of Peoria.


Gary's family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home for their exceptional and compassionate service.


Gary was a member of the Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.


His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Following the service at the church, military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.


Burial of cremated remains will be at a later date in Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin.
