Alfretta was the second child born to David Josiah Irwin and wife Missouri Marie Atkinson. The family lived in Scipio and her father was a farmer. Sometime between 1880 and 1895 the family moved to Marion County, Oregon.

Alfretta married William Ace Turnidge September 29, 1895 at her parents home in Marion County, Oregon. They had nine children: Bonita Velma; Mona Agnes; Chester Vincent; Ersal David; Delpha Leola; Wilma Pearl; Iva Mae; Norman Virgil; Thelma Evangeline. William was a farmer in Willamina, Oregon.

Sometime between 1945 to 1950 their sons Ersal and Norman went to Oregon and moved William and Alfretta to Lancaster, California. In 1952 they moved to Compton, California. After William died in 1955, Alfretta went to live with son Norman and his wife Wahetta for a while. Wahetta was a Jehovah's Witness and Alfretta became one also. She eventually moved into the Victoria Nursing Home in Portland, Oregon, where she died of heart disease.

Funeral services were held in Portland Monday, Feb. 22, for Alfretta G. Turnidge, mother of Mrs. Bonita Stephens of Willamina. The services were held from the Edward Holman and Son Funeral Home. Other survivors are daughters, Mrs. Mona Benson, Mrs. Delpha Benedict, Mrs. Wilma Williams and Mrs. Thelma Stevens; sons, Ersal Turnidge and Norman Turnidge; and a brother, James Irwin.........(the rest of it is illegible)
