edit: Hello and thank you for putting up this page for Lawrence. While we never meet nor even knew one another during life he was my 4th cousin one removed. Not a close relative but remember we are Jewish. The Yiddish word is mishpachah. A family unit. Lawrence's Grandfather Meyer was one of 10 children and the only one to come to America. Most who remained were murdered in the Shoah. Meyer's mother was Keila Ciser. She was the first cousin to both my great grandmother Pesel and Meyer Ciser.Meyer was the grandfather of Sid Caesar. I knew Sid as a kid. If you are in touch with David Appel please let him know of this history. I have made a few edits. Thanks

"Lawrence G. Appel
Monticello - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence G. Appel (Larry). His death came on October 30, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix. He was 69 years old. Larry is survived by: a son, David Appel, of Denver, Colorado, two grandchildren and a sister, Jane Borreda, in New Jersey. His Life Partner of twelve years, Anne Babinsky, will miss him greatly. Larry had survived pancreatic cancer for almost seven years and was in very good health right up to the end. He would want others to know that he did not die of cancer! Larry had been Director of Admissions at Sullivan County Community College for thirty-two years, and in that capacity, was a leader in the State of New York community college movement. In his colleagues' words, 'Larry was the poster child for the community college movement. He believed deeply in the mission and the opportunity that our community colleges offered to all New Yorkers."And also "... a sweet man - extremely professional and knowledgeable - dedicated to the to the mission of public, higher education and a sentimental, dear friend to many of his colleagues.' Larry and Anne moved to Prescott, Arizona upon his retirement, where they built a beautiful home and life there together. Larry loved being retired, and he became an avid train lover, filling the yard with track, trains and surrounding scenery. He is also known for his hand carving of wood, making many beautiful things for himself and others. Travel had also become a hobby. The family and friends will gather to celebrate Larry's life beside Watson Lake on Saturday, December 15, 2007, at 11:30 a.m. Those who wish to memorialize his life may make contributions to the Central Arizona Model Railroad Club at Desert Hills Bank, The Crossings, Prescott, AZ 86305 or to the Yavapai Regional Medical Center Foundation, 1003 Willow Creek Rd., Prescott, AZ 86301."
