Actor. He is remembered for playing 'Doctor Alan Quartermaine' in the daytime serial "General Hospital" (1977 to 2013). Born Stuart Michael Zonis to Russian-Jewish parents, his father was a manufacturer. His interest in performing could be traced back to his pre teenage years, when he attended summer camp and participated in a production of "The Wizard of Oz." He received a degree in Psychology from Brandeis University and during his collegiate years, he performed in various stage productions including musicals. Following graduation, he acquired experience in summer stock and made his Broadway debut in the musical "First Impressions" (1959) as part of the singing ensemble. He made his TV debut in an episode of the series "Naked City" (1962) and went on to appearances on the British programs "Man in a Suitcase" and "The Saint" prior to landing the starring role as 'Craig Stirling' in the series "The Champions" (1968 to 1969). He played the role of 'Prince Charming' in the 1965 TV-Movie adaptation of "Cinderella." During his run on "General Hospital" he received an Emmy Award and earned several additional nominations. He was also associated with the soap operas "The Days of Our Lives," "As the World Turns" and "Port Charles." At the time of his death, he was battling renal failure.
