William Vandiver was a Death Row Inmate at the Indiana State Penitentiary in Michigan City, Indiana. He was convicted of killing his father inlaw, Paul Komyatti Sr., age 62, on March 20th, 1983. Paul Komyatti was a chronic drinker, who would become loud and violent, when drinking to excess. He was disliked by most his family, including his own wife, Rosemary, and his daughter Mariann, who was married to William Vandiver. Paul had demanded that his daughter divorce William Vandiver, because of his criminal past. He threatened to inform the Police on him. Vandiver joined in on the family conspiracy to kill Paul. Several attempts to poisen him was unsuccessful. They all decided to inject air in his veins, after rendering him unconcious with ether. They changed their plans at the last moment, due to lack of ether. They made an attempt to smother him in his sleep, but Paul fought hard for his life, bungling the plan. Vandiver grabbed a fish knife and stabbed him 100 times, ending the man's resistance. He hit him over the head 5-6 times with a butt of a gun. Then his body was decapitatated, ending his shallow breathing. The other family members sectioned up the body, while making jokes. Vandiver got a loan from Paul Jr. for $5,000.00, and from his mother inlaw, Rosemary, he got $1,700.00 and her husband's truck. At trial, Vandiver tried to recant his confession, placing the soul blame on Paul Jr. for the murder and dissection. Regardless...he was sentenced to death, 2 1/2 years after the crime, he was electrocuted in the Electric Chair, at the age of 37.
