Joseph F. "Chessie" DiAngelo

Joseph F. DiAngelo, of Wilmington, died Monday, July 15, 2002. He was 82.

Mr. DiAngelo was born in Wilmington March 7, 1920 to the late Alberto and Filomena (Pantalone) DiAngelo. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served our country during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed with Electric Hose and Rubber Company and retired in 1977. A lifelong resident of Wilmington, Mr. DiAngelo lived a creative life. He enjoyed making wine and beer, and was an avid and devoted gardener. He especially loved growing roses and took great pride in them. He also enjoyed college football and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Joseph, Jr.; and two sisters, Anna Bonaventure and Mary Cirillo.

Mr. DiAngelo is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary L. (Ercole) DiAngelo; four children, Gerald DiAngelo (Sarah) of Townsend, Carl DiAngelo of Bear, Mary Jo DiAngelo of Wilmington and Albert DiAngelo (Rebecca) of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; a sister, Gilda Casarino of Wilmington; three granddaughters, Emily, Sonya and Amelia; and many nieces, nephews and their families; cousins; and in-laws.

Services were held July 20 at the Charles P. Arcaro Funeral Home, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. DiAngelo's memory to the American Cancer Society, 92 Reads Way, New Castle, DE 19720 or to the American Heart Association, 1096 Old Churchmans Rd., Newark, DE 19713.
