He was born November 6, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to Myrtle and Herman Thierry. Al was the youngest of their ten children being predeceased by Herman, Frank, Helen, John, Louis, George, Rosemary, Laura and Myrtle. He is survived by many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. Albert attended Holy Redeemer elementary and high school. He also attended the University of Detroit.
In 1948 he joined the Army serving three and one-half years. He is a Korean War Veteran. There he served as an artillery forward observer. Returning from the War he joined the Iron Workers Union and for 32 years "boomed" around the U.S. He was an IWU member for over 63 years. He was a devout Catholic. His faith led him to participate in the Cursillo Movement. He was an avid sports fan, played baseball, basketball and football and coached baseball, football and basketball throughout his life.
Through his own experience of dyslexia his avocation led him to work with learning disabled children and adults. Many of his surviving papers attest to his understanding and caring attitude. Uncle Al was a poet and would often recite his poems. He was a lifelong learner and enjoyed reading, music, dance and science. He corresponded with family and friends. We hold him in our hearts.
