The best researched, sourced and most complete history of Martha Clarke's life and family can be found at alicemartinbishop.com . Most if all other sites include fictional accounts or additions.

Clarke was the spelling used for her and her family's name in documents but to make her easier to find, "Clark" will be used here. She is my 9xGGA and the same or similar for thousands of others out there. Here's what's known of her life.

Martha Clarke's parents were George Clarke (abt 1616 Eng - 1644 Plymouth, MA) and Alice Martin Clarke Bishop (abt 1616 Eng - 4 Oct 1648 Plymouth, MA). They were married in Plymouth, in January, 1639. Their 1st child was Abigail Clarke, born about 1641 in Plymouth, death unknown but after 1649. Martha joined the family sometime between late July, early August, 1643 and July 21st, 1644 based on court documents stating she was 4 years old at the time of her death. Her step-sister, Damaris Martin Bishop Sutton was born sometime in late 1645 and died the 6th of February, 1682, in Piscataway, Middlesex, NJ.

Martha's life was very short and ended tragically. Her mother brutally murdered her on July 22nd, 1648 at the family home in the town of Plymouth, Plymouth Colony. It's likely that she was buried at Burial Hill but since no trace of wooden or stone marker exists, it's possible she was buried at one of the other burial grounds in the area.

Her parents, George Clarke (to be continued...)
